Follow the guidelines below to format references to magazine or newspaper articles found online.

Format

Author's Last Name, First Initial. Second Initial If Given. (Year of Publication, Month Day if given). Title of article: Subtitle if any. Title of Magazine/Newspaper, Volume if given(Issue number if given), page numbers if given. URL

Tips

Always begin the date with a year followed by the month and day. If no day is available, only list the month.
Do not put a period after a URL.
Do not put "Retrieved from."
You do not need to include volume, issue, or page numbers for a magazine or newspaper article found online if there are none available.
If you retrieved the article from a library database, you do not need to include the database name or URL.
If no author is listed, you can begin with the title of the article and use a shortened title in quotation marks for your in-text citation.
